History of Saibu Gas before the holding company transition
1930 | After taking over the branches in Fukuoka, Kumamoto, Nagasaki and Sasebo areas which was managed by Toho Gas, Saibu Gas was established with a starting capital of 10 million yen and a customer base of 29,000 clients. Its initial headquarters was located in Chiyo, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City. |

1971 | Nagasaki-Togitsu Works (former Nagasaki Works) went into operation and Nakanoshima Works closed its operation down at the same time. All the coal gasification facilities were closed. |
1973 | The number of customers exceeded 500,000. |
1974 | Listed on the 1st section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. |
1976 | The number of customers exceeded 600,000. Accordingly, Saibu Gas went under jurisdiction of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (current METI). Tokyo Representative Office was opened. Gas pipeline running from Omuta to Kumamoto went into operation. Former Kumamoto Works commenced to receive purchased gas. |
1977 | Kitakyushu Works went into operation. |
1982 | Nagasaki Flood Disaster occurred, but the strenuous restoration efforts across the industry made the gas distribution in that area revived swiftly. |
1986 | Natural gas operation at Kitakyushu Works was commenced. |
1988 | Headquarters was relocated to Chiyo, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City. Saibu Gas introduced Gas Co-generation System for the first time in Kyushu area. |
1989 | Calorific value conversion to natural gas was commenced from 4,500 kcal to 11,000 kcal in Kitakyushu area. |
1990 | LNG Sales and Purchase Agreement (SPA) with Malaysia LNG Sdn. Bhd. was signed. |
1991 | Sasebo Works went into operation. |
1993 | LNG terminal went into operation in Fukuhoku Works. |
1994 | Fukuhoku Pipeline went into operation. The number of customers exceeded one-million. |
1996 | Fukuma Works closed. Fukuhoku LNG storage tank No. 2 went into operation. LNG tank truck supply was commenced to Iizuka Gas. |
1999 | LNG tank truck supply was commenced to Karatsu Gas and Imari Gas. |
2000 | Kumamoto Works went into operation. LNG tank truck supply was commenced to Kyushu Gas in Omura area. |
2001 | R&D Institute and Training Center moved to Imajuku, Nishi-ku, Fukuoka City. City gas tariff was revised. |
2002 | Kurume Pipeline and Nagasaki Pipeline went into operation. Wholesale supply of natural gas via pipeline was commenced to Tosu Gas, Kurume Gas and Chikushi Gas. |
2003 | Nagasaki Works went into operation. Saibu Gas’s acquisition of shares of Omuta Gas Co., Ltd., Kyushu Gas Asso Co., Ltd. and Mitsui Kozan Kasei Co., Ltd. (current SG Chemical Co., Ltd.) made them subsidiaries owned by Saibu Gas. |
2005 | LNG tank truck supply was commenced to Kyushu Gas in Isahaya area. |
2006 | City gas tariff was revised. LNG SPA with Sakhalin Energy Investment Co., Ltd. was signed. |
2008 | City gas tariff was revised. Kurume Gas Co., Ltd. was established. |
2009 | Saibu Gas has started to sell gEne-Farmh, or residential fuel cell systems. |
2010 | Hibiki LNG Co., Ltd. was established. Construction project of Hibiki LNG terminal was commenced. LNG import from Sakhalin LNG was commenced. |
2011 | City gas tariff was revised. Calorific value standard of city gas was changed to 45MJ and 46MJ. Nakama Gas Co., Ltd. was merged to Saibu Gas Group. Omuta Works operated by Kyushu Gas Asso went into operation. |
2012 | Saibu Gas Baseball Team was established as a companyfs symbolic sport. Chikugo Gas Asso Co., Ltd. was established. Ene-seed Co., Ltd. was established and entered into renewable energy business including solar power business. LNG SPA with Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. was signed. City gas tariff was revised in accordance with gTax for Climate Change Mitigationh. |
2013 | LNG SPA with Sakhalin Energy Investment Co., Ltd. was revised. |
2014 | LNG SPA with Malaysia LNG Sdn. Bhd. was revised. City gas tariff was revised in accordance with tax-rate change of gTax for Climate Change Mitigationh. Hibiki LNG terminal went into operation. |
2015 | City gas tariff was revised. Kurume Works operated by Chikugo Gas Asso Co., Ltd. went into operation. LNG tank truck supply to Yamaguchi Godo Gas Co., Ltd. was commenced. Kitakyushu Works closed its operation down. Fukuhoku Works closed its operation down. Higashihama Hydrogen Station went into operation. |
2016 | Saibu Gas has participated in the electricity retail business in accordance with the liberalization of the electricity market. After the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquakes, Saibu Gas engaged in the restoration efforts with a team of 4,600 people including another detachment team. Saibu Gas released gScrum 2019h, the mid-term management plan, which covered the management strategy from FY 2017 to 2019. Ene-seed Kitakyushu Wind Farm went into operation. |
2017 | Full Liberalization of New Entry into the City Gas Retail Market was started. |
2018 | Saibu Gas changed over its corporate governance structure to a Company with audit and supervisory committee. Representative Office Registered in Singapore was established. |
2019 | Saibu Gas released the slogan: gItsumo no Asa to, Atarashii Ashita woh , or gUsual good morning, and good tomorrow beyond.h gScrum 2022h, the mid-term management plan, was released, which covered the management strategy from FY 2020 to 2022. gHinata-no-Mori Odo-no-Yudokoroh, our first challenge of spa chain in Fukuoka, has been launched. |
2020 | Towards the structure transition to a pure holding company, the following four subsidiary companies have been established, wholly owned by Saibu Gas Co., Ltd. ESaibu Gas Division Preparation Company ESaibu Gas Kumamoto Co., Ltd. ESaibu Gas Nagasaki Co., Ltd. ESaibu Gas Sasebo Co., Ltd. Representative Office Registered in Thailand was established. The real estate leasing business were consolidated into Saibu Gas Kosho Co., Ltd. Accordingly, Saibu Gas Kosho Co., Ltd. changed its name into Saibu Gas Urban Development Co., Ltd. Kyushu-hokubu Pipeline went into operation. |
